The word “networking” became part of the American lexicon in the late 70’s to the early 80’s but it was of little concern to me as I was working in the construction field as a Steamfitter. We did have a colorful nomenclature unique to our trade, but the word networking was not included. At the time I saw it as yet another frou frou word and had no use for it. I had no idea that some 25 years later I’d be engaged in networking with Safety Professionals from all across the country and gain insight into cutting edge and state of the art ideas and processes utilized in the world of workplace safety. I had gained access to brilliant ideas from some very sharp people that I could now call on and with proper implementation put their experiences to work locally to enhance the quality of workplace safety here in my home state of Pennsylvania. This was the result of the abundance of men and women that shared their area of expertise with me during my travels across the country for the last 22 years. This has been a huge life enhancing experience. I may not know the answer……….but I know someone that does.
